Liverpool-born singer-songwriter Carys Abigail makes music by instinct, emotion and feeling. Known for her powerful, soulful voice, she brings "warmth, grit and an unapologetic edge to her performances", moving between powerful, emotionally charged vocals and a more playful, provocative delivery.
Raised in a city with music woven into its identity, Carys has never felt confined by genre. Her vocal influences draw from the raw soul and blues of Betty Davis and Koko Taylor, alongside the expressive power of Annie Lennox and the distinctive character of Amy Winehouse, Adele & RAYE. Beyond her vocal influences, her musical tastes stretch across indie, alternative, hip-hop and soul, from Bon Iver or Loyal Carner, to artists whose sounds and stories simply make her feel something.

As lead vocalist of The Makings, Carys is part of a collective songwriting process, helping shape a sound that moves between soul, funk, jazz, blues and rock. But it is in songwriting that another side of her artistry emerges. For Carys, every song begins as a feeling - an atmosphere that exists before the words, waiting to find its voice. She writes by instinct, searching for the lyrics and melodies that express what a song needs to say, often discovering something about herself in the process.
That instinct has carried into her work beyond the band. Her first solo collaboration, Watch Me Walk, written for producer X-Ray Ted's album, marked a significant personal and creative milestone. Given the freedom to shape the narrative, lyrics and melody, Carys created a song about self-empowerment and finding her feet again after a difficult relationship. The track went on to feature on BBC Radio, opening a new chapter in her journey as an artist beyond the live-band environment she had largely known.

She has since continued to build connections with producers and artists drawn to her voice and songwriting. Her collaboration with The Niceguys, 'All About (me)', see's her once again taking the lead on the song's narrative, lyrics and melody. Set for release on 6 November 2026, the track marks another step in Carys' growing solo identity, with further collaborative work already underway.
While her work with The Makings is shaped by the chemistry and shared vision of a seven-piece band, her solo writing gives her space to explore a more personal expression of female identity, sensuality and self-assurance. Across both, the constant is her instinct for emotion: a voice that can command a room, tell a story and give a feeling somewhere to go.
Whether performing with her band or collaborating in the studio, Carys Abigail is an artist who follows the feeling first - and lets the music find its own shape.
